We had the program, Kids Empowered, come to visit our school a few times at the beginning of the year. They empowered us to stand up for ourselves and for each other! Here are some scripts that we have been continually practicing at school to help your child stand up to someone when they are not being treated the way they want to be treated. Have them show you at home.
1st time: "I want you to stop calling me ______" and the child finds someone else to play with (not alone!)
2nd time: "I don't think you heard me. I want you to stop calling me _______." and the child find someone else to play with.
3rd time: "I have told you 2 times to stop calling me ______. If you keep calling me _____ I HAVE to report you."
Bystanders can say...
"At Delta Kelly, we don't call people names. That's mean."
"At Delta Kelly, everyone gets to play."
Remember...
1. Use a firm voice!
2. Look the person in the eye.
3. Stand up tall. Use those 'Sponge Bob Squareshoulders'!
